Trees are the oldest and the largest living things on earth. Some are weird, some extraordinary, some gorgeous, and some shaped by the human hand to fascinate and amuse. Please enjoy these images–or better yet, take a walk in the woods and greet them in person with appreciation.
As Patricia Hays suggested in the comments below, if you’re inclined, you can listen to Paul Robeson sing about trees while you meander through this post. Thanks to Tom Reiter for forwarding the link.

The oldest tree on earth, great basin bristle cone pine, Oldest trees, over 5000 years old, in California

General Sherman tree, Sequoia Redwood, the largest living single-stem tree and largest living organism on earth in California

Jabuticaba, a Brazilian grape tree The fruit grows directly from the trunk and branches of the tree.

This post is a group effort. Here’s a lovely tree poem/prayer that has been going around the internet with these images. Thanks to George for forwarding it to me:
An Ancient Prayer of the Woods
I am the heat of your hearth on the cold winter nights,
the friendly shade screening you from the summer sun,
and my fruits are refreshing
droughts quenching your thirst as you journey on.
I am the beam that holds your house,
the board of your table,
the bed on which you lie,
and the timber that builds your boat.
I am the handle of your hoe,
the door of your homestead,
the wood of your cradle,
and the shell of your coffin.
I am the bread of kindness and the flower of beauty.
‘Ye who pass by, listen to my prayer: Harm me not.’
(A prayer used in Portuguese forest preservation for more than 1,000 years)

Tom Reiter….that needs to be BEFORE the trees…so it can be listened to as one looks at them. I seen one type in Hawaii that amazed me…as I’m from the Missouri Ozarks. I really enjoyed these…ty to whoever did this…
Glory of God.
You have beautiful pictures of the trees I enjoyed looking at them thank you. I never knew the trees could be so beautiful
I agree, only God can make a tree. These were amazing pictures. Enjoyed every one of them.
This is truly a case for God. Only God could make such a thing as the beautiful trees shown here. Thanks for sharing.
Nature is supreme . Real supreme.
Cuando veo estas bellezas me doy cuenta de que no conozco casi nada del mundo, gracias por compartir.

Great tree photos, you could travel the whole planet and still miss these trees.
WOW !! and thank you for these beautiful photos !
I love nature and these pictures clearly express what Joyce Kilmer was writing about . . . ” I think that I will never see a poem as lovely as a tree.”
Thank you for such moments of pleasure. Dan
I have loved Trees sense I was a young child. The stunning examples you have shown are just breath taking. Thank you
Deslumbrante !!!!
Marvelous, inspirational, examples of God’s work mixed in with man’s creativity.
This is one of the best posts I have ever seen and an excellent tribute to our great oxygenators (without whom we would not exist), TREES!
This is why I dislike golf courses so much. Trees gone and replaced with unnatural grass that requires mowing, feeding and constant attention.
Incredible Nature
Thanks for these wonders
Thank you for sharing these wonders!
Wonderful view of God’s handiwork…Beauty every way you look!
Nature is my glory!
Thank you so much! Those trees are so beautiful and really makes you realize what a wonderful world we have!
Trees are pretty and so are rocks, if they look like something.
Great shots, but the e-mail with the link referenced Joyce Kilmer’s poem, “Trees”, and referred to him as “she”. He was a soldier in the NY Irish Regiment and was killed in the 1st World War.
Sorry, I didn’t realize the poet was a he.
are these trees real or are they helped out a lot by someone. its hard to believe they all grew so beautiful by nature alone. But they are great photo’s anyway
What a wonderful reprieve from the week. I love trees.
These are the most absurd and most beautiful trees I have EVER seen!!!!! Thanks for sharing these photos!!! Thanks, Nancy
I think the ones that are shaped by humans are marked as such or obvious (like the ones shaped like people.) Some do grow in amazing ways to get through or around things, don’t they?
God’s work to& for man to enjoy I am blown away.

An awesome miracle that only God could give us. Thank you for putting it on the web so that everyone could appreciate it. Thanks for such wondrous window to my world.
Very interesting. Thank U.
Great & Outstanding
One of my all time favorite emails. I love seeing pictures of these old and unusual trees. Thank you.
Absolutely beautiful.
Tree’s are very beautiful but if we keep cutting the forests down we will not live here. Trees help with the oxygen in our lives and without them a barren planet!
Plant a tree…….it will make you feel good!
Thanks for the enjoyment I received from these fantastic trees.
WOW! ! ‘UNBELIEVABLE & INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFULL’! ! !
Love the song…my husband said while he was in school they had to learn the song as a poem back then. Simply beautiful…song and the trees. We must give God the amazing credit for it all. Praise God, and thank you.
Love the beauty of Trees!!! unique in their own way…as are the inhabitants of planet Earth. Recognized the banyan tree which is on the grounds of Iolani Palace in Honolulu, Hawaii. Wish more had been identified as to location. Mahalo & Aloha nui loa!
