Trees are the oldest and the largest living things on earth. Some are weird, some extraordinary, some gorgeous, and some shaped by the human hand to fascinate and amuse. Please enjoy these images–or better yet, take a walk in the woods and greet them in person with appreciation.
As Patricia Hays suggested in the comments below, if you’re inclined, you can listen to Paul Robeson sing about trees while you meander through this post. Thanks to Tom Reiter for forwarding the link.
Thanks to: 9Wows, and Dean.
This post is a group effort. Here’s a lovely tree poem/prayer that has been going around the internet with these images. Thanks to George for forwarding it to me:
An Ancient Prayer of the Woods
I am the heat of your hearth on the cold winter nights,
the friendly shade screening you from the summer sun,
and my fruits are refreshing
droughts quenching your thirst as you journey on.
I am the beam that holds your house,
the board of your table,
the bed on which you lie,
and the timber that builds your boat.
I am the handle of your hoe,
the door of your homestead,
the wood of your cradle,
and the shell of your coffin.
I am the bread of kindness and the flower of beauty.
‘Ye who pass by, listen to my prayer: Harm me not.’
(A prayer used in Portuguese forest preservation for more than 1,000 years)
How can I download the pics. too my screensaver
Nature has provided beauty that has far surpasses anything human beings have ever created, and may I add, destroyed, but will continue to do so, long after ‘civilisation’, as we know it, has disappeared.
And they said it could not be done
A beautiful presentation of natural trees, but why include Disney World’s man made “Tree of Life”.
If “God” must have created trees, WHO or WHAT must have created “God?”
There are no words for Gods handy work except, THANK YOU!
Sorry. I’m not sure how. All I know is on a pc you can right click and download the image. then you have to figure out how to get it into your screen saver.

Trees are my very favourite things. To see the reverence with which people around the world treat these living, breathing creations of the Creator, is heartening. Respect for trees ought to be planted in the hearts of children to ensure their longevity. The pictures are superb.
creation of the master’s hand
Note that the trees with the holes cut in them to allow the power lines to go through are compliments of the CT DOT pruning plan.
Thank you mother Nature, thank to all the photographers.
No wars, just peace and beauty. You made my day.
I wish that all the trees had been subtitled with name and place. These were truly magnificent. Thank you for what is true art of nature.

Amazing trees and shapes. Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful place you’ve created! I plan to spend a good part of each day here enjoying myself. And I’m going to share it with everyone I know – particularly those who still work and need to escape to a beautiful place and soak it up for a few minutes or just get a good laugh to tide them over till the bell rings! I wish this had been available when I was working in stressful jobs. But it is NOW! Thank you. See you again tomorrow.
